History’s most memorable Superbowl halftime costumes

So, I hear there’s some sort of big football game today? I dunno about you, but I’m just here for the snacks and commercials. Oh, and we can’t forget about the halftime show! This 15-minute time slot is a coveted honor for musicians, and one of the greatest opportunities to put on some serious entertainment.

Over the years, we’ve seen all sorts of costumes–from the basic and boring to the over-the-top and wild. Here’s a look at some of the most memorable outfits celebs have worn for their big moment in the spotlight.

Baby Brit performed with Aerosmith in 2001. This was pre-mental breakdown and shaved head. But dang, those abs are still there!
Usher and Black Eyed Peas in 2011, wearing all white and metallic.
Man, I feel like a woman! Shania rocked the crown like only she can in 2003.
Do you even recognize Christina Aguilera and Enrique Iglesias from 2000? This is such a timid look for the “Dirrty” singer.
Destiny’s Child fans rejoiced in 2013 when the group had a mini reunion at the Superbowl. And c’mon…those coordinating outfits never disappoint.
It was only two years ago, in 2017, that Gaga rocked the stage…and received criticism for her “chubby tummy.” Now excuse me while I go go 100 sit-ups, because the girl looks amazing to me.
The King of Pop, Michael Jackson, took the stage in 1993, and started the trend of having major musicians as the show’s lead performers. This military look will live on forever.
It was the nip-slip seen around the world when Janet Jackson performed with Justin Timberlake in 2004. Those outfits though…
All hail Prince! In 2007 he brought fans to their feet wearing his signature colorful ensembles, complete with his purple guitar.
Madonna channeled her inner goddess in 2012 with a mix of blacks and gold detailing. Very regal.
Between the massive lion, to the strange dancing sharks, Katy Perry’s show was quite memorable in 2015.

This limited selection is proof that Superbowl Halftime shows are major fashion moments that can live on in time. So, what do you think Maroon 5 will be wearing tonight?
