How to get a Summer Glow in the Wake of Winter

Have you ever wondered how your favorite celebrities manage to stay dewy, glowing, and bronzed even in the dead of winter? It may be their unlimited bank accounts that allows them to jet off to Aruba to catch a few rays. Or it could be their make-up artist playing a few tricks on us with some bronzer and a good highlight. In just a few short steps I can teach you how to get that straight-out-of-Cabo glow without having to leave your bedroom.

Step 1: The Tools of the Trade

To begin you will need to choose a bronzer that isn’t too orange yet still has a brown undertone to it. I like mine to have a little bit of shimmer in it to enhance my glow. I suggest using the Hoola Bronzer by Benefit or Wet n’ Wild’s Ticket to Brazil bronzer, as a cheaper alternative. You will also need to choose a highlight. When choosing a highlight, you don’t really need to follow any guidelines, just choose the one that seems the most striking to you. I like Urban Decay’s After Glow because of its high shine and iridescence. Finally, you will need to choose two brushes: one large brush for bronzing and a fan brush for applying the highlight.

These are the necessary tools to get the perfect glow.

Step 2: Primed and Ready

Next, you will need to make sure your skin has been primed and your normal foundation routine has been applied to your face. The bronzer and highlight will not stick and stay to the face if there is no base for the make-up to hold onto.

Step 3: Putting Pen to Paper, or in This Case Brush to Face

Here comes the fun part. After prepping the skin, you will be ready to apply the bronzer. Begin by dipping your brush into the bronzer and tapping off the excess product, then draw the number “3” on your face starting from the forehead to the jaw bone. Make sure to get underneath your cheekbone to give definition.

Follow these patterns to achieve a flattering look.

Step 4: Get Glowing

Finally, you’re ready to glow. Start with your highlight, dip your fan brush into the product, tap off the excess and you’re ready to apply. Key places to highlight are your cheekbones, forehead, top lip, nose and inside corners of your eyes for maximum brightness.

These few steps will not only define your face by drawing out your cheekbones, and making your lips look plumper, but they will also give you that summer glow, even in the dreariest of months.
