Picture Perfect: 5 Tips for Flattering Photos

You don’t have to be a professional model to pose for a perfect picture.  Whether posing with friends or taking artsy pictures, there are seven easy tips to use that will turn you into a posing pro.

  1. Confidence is beautiful

The first tip to remember when posing for any picture is to have confidence. When you are confident in front of the camera, it shows up in the pictures whether that means making funny faces or wearing an outfit that makes you feel confident.

  1. Find your signature pose

The next tip to pose like a professional is to make sure you don’t freeze in front of the camera. We all know that person who tenses up and makes taking their picture an awkward experience because they feel uncomfortable in front of the camera. To make sure this does not happen, get to know your own best angles in the mirror and practice poses to find your signature position. In any picture, posture is key. Simply remembering to roll your shoulders down your back has major impacts.  That one easy movement causes the chest to move forward and the neck to elongate.

  1. Legs for days

Next, let’s talk about legs.  Last summer, Kendall Jenner made the “Barbie Leg” the go-to pose. To master this pose, put all your weight on your back leg then delicately place the other foot forward close to the camera. By placing the leg closer to the camera, it instantly looks longer.

  1. What about the arms?

Let’s move from your legs to your arms. Here’s another great tip: use the power stance.  This one is easy.  All you have to do is put your hands on your hips but actually just above your hips. Kourtney Kardashian is a pro at this because it instantly makes a shorter person look taller and leaner. When posing for photos, never hold the arms against the body. If the arms are tight to the body and pressed against you, they appear larger than they are.

  1. More is more

Finally, the last tip to make your pictures perfect is to always take more pictures!  Even Bella Hadid doesn’t take a perfect picture every time.  There will be bad pictures. Everybody takes a bad picture sometime. Just laugh off those bad pictures and keep trying.  Think of it as a way to increase the odds of getting that perfect picture.  The more pictures you take, the greater chance you have of getting that one great shot.

Keep these tips in mind the next time you snap a selfie.  Taking that perfect picture is a just a pose away!
