Maximizing your space, the fashionable way

Do you find yourself struggling to find a spot to put all of your belongings? You always think “wow this would look so much better if I just had a bigger room.” Your closet is consumed by an unreal amount of clothes and shoes, making it incredibly easy to lose your favorite top. What if I told you it didn’t have to be this difficult. You can make any space of yours feel a hundred times bigger just with a few simple tips and tricks.

Do you really need that?

The biggest advice to take is that if you haven’t used it or worn it in the past six months, just get rid of it. There’s no sense in hoarding up those unused items, they’ll only make things worse. Going along with the same idea, throw out those damaged items and clothing pieces that don’t even fit anymore. Always think smarter not harder.

I know we’re all guilty of having a junk drawer somewhere in our rooms. It’s almost impossible not to have one. Taking the time to clean out your junk drawer will really help you out in the long run. No, you don’t need that birthday card from 5th grade that your elementary bestie gave to you. I suggest cleaning out your drawer every month or so, freeing up some more space. Plus it’s fun to reminisce as you do it.

Storage bins and under-the-bed storage keeps a room looking neat.

Storage in Disguise

There are endless amounts of options for storage that we usually wouldn’t even consider. We want our space to look put together and cute, so these affordable options are great for that.

  1. Ottomans: These are amazing for storing a lot of items at once. You can pick from smaller ottomans, to even the longer bench style ottomans. They’re perfect for holding shoes, textbooks, or even hair and makeup products. The options are endless of what you put into them, but the best part is that your things stay hidden.
  2. Hampers & Pop-up Bins: Both of these items are where you can add a nice print or color to your space. There are many hampers with unique designs, meant to match your style. You can use a hamper in the traditional way for dirty laundry, or you can get a little more creative and use it to store extra blankets and pillows, adding a cozy touch. Pop-up bins also come in endless amounts of colors and designs, just in a smaller size. These bins are great for holding your electronics, or even the hundreds of t-shirts you own. These are so versatile, so if you ever decide you don’t want to use it anymore, you can just fold it up and tuck it away.
  3. Curtains & Shelving: This neat trick is great for hiding messes and adding room to your closet. Having shelves gives you that extra space to tuck away smaller items. I suggest keeping handbags and bulkier items like sweatshirts up there. If you want to add more detail to your room, try including a large shelving unit against your wall. You can decorate to your liking, but adding things like blankets and bins gives you the best of both worlds. You have your mess put away, but it looks great doing so.
  4. Saving Room: Now if you’re simply just looking for some ways free up some space, here are the easiest ways to do so. Folding your clothes sideways from back to front will give you double the space versus just stacking up your clothes. Using the underside of your bed as a form of storage is also super helpful. It holds a ton of things, but you’ll never even see them! Lastly, using small dollar bins to organize your desk, makeup, or any spot you’d like is perfect. It’s the cheapest way to get your things organized.
Mugs and office containers are the best way to keep toiletries and makeup organized.

Making your room nice and organized doesn’t have to be a dreadful task. Give yourself an hour or so, spend a few dollars, and you’ll realize how easy it is. You want to love the space you’re living in, so why not make it the best it can be?

When I'm not obsessing over what outfit I'll buy next, there's a 100% chance I'm either taking a nap or working at Marshall's. There's absolutely no in between.
