Personal Styling students take on Tony Walker

Haven’t you always wished you could be at the center of a glam photoshoot? You know, the ones where the camera is click, click, clicking, the lights are shining, and a team of stylists is making you look ah-mazing?

Well, what might be the dream for many, turned to reality for seven of our very own freshmen when the department’s Personal Styling classes visited Tony Walker & Co. in Buffalo, NY on April 12.

Current students and alumni know that our department prides itself on application-based learning, taking students into the field, and visiting locations that provide a real glimpse into different career paths. So it made perfect sense to team up with Tony Walker & Co. for our class project. Thirty-five students from the two classes were broken into groups, and given the following guidelines:

  1. Choose one team member to be the group’s model
  2. Choose a theme for your photoshoot
  3. Style your model using clothing and accessories at Tony Walker & Co.
  4. Have fun!

The staff at Tony Walker & Co. went above and beyond for our group–assisting students in their styling choices, providing us a yummy lunch, and setting up a photoshoot studio for our students to get a glimpse of how the whole process works.

The students had a blast, and the finished photos turned out great! But now the *real* fun begins–it’s competition time! Each group’s chosen photo is posted on the fashion department’s social media platforms, and viewers are encouraged to vote on their favorite. The group who received the most “likes” will be the winner, and–you guessed it–win a prize. Voting is underway and ends Tuesday, April 17 at 8:00 a.m.

Huge thanks to Tony Walker & Co. for a great field trip experience for our students!
