Fall is here – but that doesn’t mean you have to say goodbye to your summer faves

“Balling on a budget” is an understatement for us college students. How can I afford new clothes every season? Well the truth is most of us can’t. What we can do however, is stretch our summer favorites into fall must-haves! Fashion is not what you have, it’s what you can do with what you have.

That adorable mini skirt you wore to all those concerts this summer? Pair it with tall boots and stockings! Layering up will keep your legs warm and you can get a few more wearings out of that skirt. And how about your favorite tank that’s so incredibly comfy? Add a cardigan, jean jacket, or maybe even a blazer! Tank tops can never go out of season if you pair it properly.

Now ladies, let’s not forget to accessorize. Scarves are a must-have. Just simply adding a scarf to your outfit can spice anything up and keep you warm. Whether it be just to add color, or if it’s a large cable knit infinity scarf – you just can’t go wrong. Secondly, knee-high socks or leg warmers can be worn under any type of shoe and look adorable with boots. Local stores like H&M and Forever 21 offer affordable pairs of all colors, patterns and some even have lace at the top.

Other summer favorites are, of course, sun dresses and rompers. Like a skirt or tank top, it’s simple: layer up! Large cable knit cardigans look great over any short sleeve dress or romper. If you have a long cardigan, wear that over your dress. It’ll keep the back of your legs covered and you’ll be golden. No cardigan? Add your favorite knit sweater over your dress. Too big? Maybe tie a knot to add some dimension to your outfit. This way your dress can act as a skirt and your sweater will keep you warm.

Fashion is all about what you can make out of what you have. So get creative and have fun! Don’t let the chilly Erie wind keep you from looking your best all year round.

You can always find me with a coffee mug in hand, and probably wearing chunky heels. I may be extra, but hey! It’s better than boring.
