Sparklers of the Silver Screen: Emmys roundup

Awards season is officially underway, and while most people consider the Globes and Oscars as the premiere shows for movie stars, the Emmys is the big night for our favorite TV actors.  Last night, celebrities flocked to the red carpet and brought with them a slew of hits and misses when it came to fashion.  Here’s my personal take on who stood out (and not always in a good way!).

All hail Nicole Kidman.

Nicole is back, people!  Sure, she’s had some ups and downs in recent years, including some very questionable dress choices, but at the end of the day, Nicole Kidman is a fashion superstar.  And last night she hit it out of the park with her beautiful, red Calvin Klein number.  Even the silver rope detailing couldn’t clash with the gold Emmys she won for her show, “Big Little Lies.”

Silver having a moment.

From accessories to full gowns, silver was one of the standout colors of the evening.  Actresses rocked the statement color that mimicked liquid metal.  Some were better than others, but there’s one thing for sure: there might be a shortage of silver sequins in the world after last night.

What’s with the wet hair look?

One thing I’ve never understood is the combination of glamorous gown paired with unkempt hair.  Several ladies were sporting this look on the carpet, including Laverne Cox and Anna Chlumsky.  The almost wet-looking, slicked back style is such a contrast from the formal nature of the event.  Not a fan.

Spanx slip!

Apparently even size negative-zero celebs wear spanx too.  Is there anything worse that your spanx accidently showing? Modern Family actress Sarah Hyland dealt with her wardrobe malfunction with grace and humor after being notified that her black spanx were showing at the waistline of her dress.  Whoops!
