Red carpet season is fashion’s best time of the year, allowing us to snuggle up on the couch with some snacks and daydream over the glamour of the carpet. As exciting as the award shows themselves are, the red carpet is always a force to be reckoned with.
There’s nothing quite better than getting to see all the exquisite looks everyone pulls together for the night of festivities. This year’s Academy Awards were no exception, and the celebrities’ outfits were extraordinary to say the least.
Although there was not any bold colors last night, there was a big trend with black and metallics. Emma Stone, Janelle Monae, and Jessica Biel are a few to name that sported the metallic look, almost resembling the beauty of the Oscar award itself.
I have to give best dressed to Emma Stone, who wore vintage Givenchy that clearly paid homage to her film, “La La Land,” for which she won best female actress. Right behind Emma for best dressed would have to be Taraji P. Henson who wore a navy blue, velvet Alberta Ferretti gown that was sleek and chic and just looked flawless on her.
Just as there were the beautiful dresses, there’s always those few that tend to just miss the mark. Dakota Johnson, from “Fifty Shades of Gray,” is unfortunately someone on this list. Her Gucci dress was very matronly and made her look like a cheap Oscar award herself.
Scarlett Johansson also is someone who didn’t hit the mark. Her Alaia gown was very busy and was not the most flattering shape. But overall I must say I was impressed with what everyone was wearing and there wasn’t as many “worst dressed listers” compared to some past red carpets.
Aside from the carpet there is the coveted award show itself that is the biggest night for Hollywood actors. There wasn’t one film in particular that swept the awards this year, but the three top awards – best actor, best actress, and best motion picture – were won by Casey Affleck, Emma Stone, and Moonlight.
As glamorous and calculated as the Oscars are though, there was a big mix up last night that everyone is talking about. When announcing the winner for best motion picture, the presenter was given the wrong card, announcing “La La Land” as the winner, when in reality it was supposed to be “Moonlight.”
Everything was taken care of in the moment when producer, Jordan Horowitz from “La La Land,” took charge and made sure “Moonlight” got the recognition it deserved. Aside from the confusion, the night was full of fun and jokes, considering this year’s host was Jimmy Kimmel, who made sure to do his part to make the night not one to forget.
Overall, the award show was a great success for both Hollywood films and actors, as well as the fashion they wore to the event.
Now back to daydreaming we were all there on the carpet, and forgetting about work and school.
